“It’s For The Blog!”

“I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. “Psalm 18 v 1-2.

Training has now officially came to an end whilst we all leave with heavy hearts after some emotional goodbyes, there was a clear buzz of excitement as we got ready to head off out to our different countries. It’s been great being home for a few days to say goodbye to family and friends before we venture off to Mozambique on Thursday. During training we also came up with our team verse (see above) and our team mission statement – “A willingness to grow in faith together through serving those we meet and by sharing God’s love.”

The last two weeks of training flew by, despite the hectic schedule at IMC. We were very grateful for our day off after Min Y Don which we spent having brunch at a lovely café in Harborne (thanks Arthur!) and watching movies to relax and recover!

Very happy faces and very full stomachs!

We got the chance to see other places of worship, visiting a mosque and a Gurdwara. We were so grateful for the hospitality shown from both places, and enjoyed the food especially as you will never leave a Gurdwara without being fed!

The Gurdwara

After many more cultural sessions and teaching (and competitive games of rounder’s) we got head back to New Life Baptist our training church where we had a meal at the church before joining the boys brigade – and getting to witness Iain’s impressive playdoh sculpting skills!

Bonus points if you can guess who made each animal!

On Saturday after a morning in the coffee shop we went for a beautiful walk down Broadway and enjoyed some pretty delicious ice-cream. (And where we came up with the blog title – many pictures were taken with this reasoning)

Iain and Dan enjoying the view!

We loved staying with Martin, Rebecca, Dan and Martha and getting to spend time with them, thanks for having us! It was so much fun having jam sessions with Dan and Martha, and we are so grateful to New Life for letting us be a part of their worship team on the Sunday morning. We will miss you all.

It was sad to say goodbye to the long term mission trainers who were also training at IMC, they brought so much joy and taught us so much. We had a beautiful send off from them where they prayed for our teams after we each went up and put a candle on the countries we were going to, followed by hot chocolates and sparklers!

‘This Little Light of Mine’ was sung many times..

Training has been a blast and we’re so thankful for all the IMC and BMS staff, especially to Stuart and Linda for all the amazing food. We have made some life-long friends and we can’t wait to come back and hear all the stories from the other action teamers and share what we’ve been up to in Mozambique.

Prayer Points –

  • That all our travel and preparation for Mozambique goes smoothly.
  • That we will continue to bond and grow as a team (and thankfulness for how much fun we’ve had so far and how we’ve come together as team)
  • For our supervisors Liz and Sergio and the projects we will be involved with whilst overseas, that we will settle in well and get stuck in to life overseas.

“Don’t fall!”

A fun afternoon in the Bullring!

Maybe next team photo Rhiannon will get a box to stand on (hint hint!)
