Lincoln is a small city with lots of history. Its has both a castle and a cathedral, right next to each other. Lincoln is built on a hill in an otherwise flat county. Alive Church Lincoln is a large church with an average of 600 people in attendance on Sunday. It has three services every Sunday. Alive supports many social projects such as restoring furniture, Add Action, Christians Against Poverty, toddler groups, and has started running courses to equip its church. It’s also runs a charity called Acts Trust and a church network called Ground Level.
The time in Lincoln allowed us to see how the church functioned close up. This included the charity they were doing in the community like renovating furniture for people that need beds, tables, sofas etc . But also how they were winning souls to Christ, like the Alpha group and an academy for future leaders in the church. Since Alive is a mega church a lot of organisation and workers were needed full time to make the church thrive. So an interesting thing they made us do was some Admin. Esther wrote a letter to the police and I attempted to sell 150 books!
Lincoln has so much to offer. The most well known sights are Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral, both a 30 second walk apart. But a real hidden gem is Rising Café, run by the charity Betel. Betel originates from Birmingham and helps recovered drug addicts, and the staff working at Rising Café are those very same addicts. The charity has no government funding, so the café funds the charity as well as giving jobs to ex addicts. Lincoln is a beautiful city to visit, but watch out for the hills! While the rest of Lincolnshire is very flat, Lincoln has the aptly named ‘Steep Hill’. There are railings to help pedestrians climb up and various cafés to help you recover.
