The Christmas Special!

Joyeux Noël and welcome back to the blog! We’ve been very busy for most of December, with a lot of our work so far culminating in a series of Christmas Carol concerts. We’re all very tired, looking forward to rest over Christmas and our team holiday (provided strikes don’t cause cancellations to our trains!) Without further ado, let’s get into what we’ve been up to!

GIF-SUR-YVETTE – 14/12/19

Our first concert took place in Gif, at our ‘home’ church and was a roaring success! We’d like to thank everyone who had been praying for us in the build up to this and who are continuing to pray for the people who came along. We sang a number of Christmas carols in French, both as part of a choir and as a smaller group, Bridget, Jennie and Ruth performed Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is You’, we did our French nativity puppet show and sang ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ with the children from English club.

It was quite hectic, but went down a treat! It was also great to see how many people accepted our invitations and came along to the service (about 120 in total!), as well as our English tutor, a family who are learning French before moving to Africa with BMS, 2 ladies from the adult English classes and plenty of people who had heard us singing in the Christmas market and decided to find out more!

MASSY – 15/12/19

The next day, after our church service , we had our 2nd concert at Massy Baptist Church (a partner church of ours) with a similar set list, minus the puppet show and ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’. It also went down well, with the wonderful surprise of seeing lots of the women from the homeless shelter watching in the audience, which made us all very excited! There was lots of cake, drinks and time to chat afterwards, where we enjoyed being thanked for our work and made friends with some of the church youth who invited us to start coming along to their youth club!

MORLAIX – 20/12/19

After a day off to recover from the crazy weekend of concerts, we headed up to Morlaix in Brittany with Philip and Rosemary Halliday, to perform in a Christmas concert at a church they’re involved with.

We were in Morlaix for 5 days and managed to find time to fit in numerous beach walks, pastries for Breakfast, Christmas films, Hamish’s swim in the sea and meals with 2 couples from the church, on top of rehearsals and the actual concert!

The concert was different in both nature and content than our previous 2, as we had a different set list and the concert itself was part of a joint project between 2 local churches.

The concert was a great success, with plenty of people coming who had NEVER engaged with a church before, as well as relations between the churches strengthening, so we hope that in the future the communities can lean on and support each other when it is needed!

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your support and wish you all a very merry Christmas from Team France x

    Hi Team France
I hope 2020 has got off to a good start for you. Jennie is part of Didcot Baptist Church which is part of Southern Counties Baptist Association (who I work for) and we would love to connect with you all better. I’ve chatted with Hannah from BMS and she thinks this is a great idea. Could you drop me an email? Clare
